Results of this study do not indicate increased risk for youth substance use among victims of childhood abuse and neglect. There are number of reasons this research may have yielded different results than the extensive literature supporting a relationship between childhood maltreatment and substance use.

On one hand, differences between this study design and most others prospective versus cross-sectional, documented cases versus retrospective self-reports, and samples skewed toward the lower end of the Prostitutes Pantin spectrum Prostitutes Pantin college student or middle class samples make direct comparisons problematic.

Findings from this study do, however, suggest that early substance use indicates risk for prostitution.
